A Map of Black America: Harlem to the Ninth Ward

There is a map of Black America drawn not in borders but in blocks: Harlem's brownstones, Bronzeville's stroll, the Tremé's second lines, the Ninth Ward's stubborn return. Each is a district where geography became genius.

To travel this map is to understand that our art was never separable from our cities. The neighborhood was the studio, the porch was the salon, and the street itself was the first stage. Culture, here, has an address.
